Clean hippo heels!
by Herr EdHerr Hippo has shown his rivals a clean quartet of heels yet again. Please compare and contrast the following sentences: the first is written by World Cup Hippo’s Herr Ed; the second by Columnist of the Year, The Independent’s James Lawton.
“…Carrick has all of the requisite attributes. He should play behind Lampard with Steven Gerrard on the right, and Joe Cole on the left (Beckham warming the bench).” January 30th 2006
“…the Beckham taboo blots out an intriguing possibility, that of an England midfield reading, right to left, Gerrard, Lampard, Carrick, and Cole.” 3rd March 2006

You’ll have to speak up Herr Ed, I can’t hear you properly. Somebody is blowing their own trumpet rather loudly. I think you make a salient point though and I think there can be but two explanations.
One, James Lawton is an avid follower of World Cup Hippo and has purloined your comments to pass off as his own, or two, you, Herr Ed, ARE James Lawton. This is the second article mentioning James Lawton, the first being a lyrical waxing of Mr Lawton’s style, followed up by a thinly disguised request for lengthy articles in praise of ‘Mr Lawton’s’ style.
And unless we see James Lawton writing articles about Portsmouth players travelling to Germany, or the science of the new Adidas Teamgeist+ football, I think we can safely assume that the latter of the two options is most credible.
