Live Text!

by Herr Ed

In addition to Der Spiel, Herr Hippo is setting WCH’s  readership another fun challenge! We are sure that you’re acquainted with the BBC website’s Live Text coverage of football matches. This service explains the game via a sequence of handy nuggets of descriptive information. In addition to providing information on which players have scored and been booked, Live Text also valuably lets one know who has just taken a defensive thow-in, or a free kick which resulted in open play.

All you have to do is predict as accurately as possible the complete text for the first World Cup game on 9th June between Germany and Costa Rica. Simply type up how you think the BBC’s Live Text transcript will look at the end of the game: the person who’s closest wins! Herr Hippo has already spent several days preparing his version: an excerpt is included below to give you some pointers. Enjoy!

That Lehmann sure is a crazy guy.

I hope the prediction for the 21:47 passage of play comes true, sounds like edge of the seat stuff.

    42.09
    Match Abandoned - Lehmann

  3. Fouldsy says:

This is impossible. nobody could ever predict what Paulo Wanchope might do during a football match, not even Paulo Wanchope.

It’s a well known fact that his legs were disconnected from his brain during a freak dry-slope skiing accident while pioneering the sport during his Costa Rican youth.

The BBC site usually takes at least 15 minutes to correct an error. Herr Hippo’s prediction is much too kind to the clunkheads who do the live text comments.

95.37 GOAL! David James (England) nudges the ball over the line with his nose after a cross by David Beckham (England)
