Well done World Cup Hippo!
It has always been my first and only stop for World Cup comment, analysis and intelligent discussion.

Many Congratulations Hippos!
Recongition at last for the most inciteful world cup site on the internet. World Cup Hare must be crying into his carrot soup.

excellent - well done.
You’ll be interested to know that Rob Smyth over at the Grauniad also takes Herr Eds position on the Hargreaves question and agrees with me about Jenas

I only stumbled upon this site on Sunday, but became a fan immediately. I have not found any good US sites for Cup info. It is a little dis-heartening.

Hi Scott, I can see the USA doing really well in Germany. When I have watched MLS matches in the past the teams seemed to get scared when they reached the last third of the field and were a bit inflexible. The national team used to share this problem but in 2002 they showed Portugal up to be a team of nearly men and were very unlucky to lose to the Germans when they looked lively.
Donovan and Johnson could be exciting to watch, especially if Arena gives the team an attacking shape.
(I’ve put a few pence on Dempsey to be top scorer for the US at long odds!)

Nice one Herr Hippo!

This is definitely the strongest US team that has ever been to a cup. I think their odds on getting out of group play are about 50/50.
If Johnson can score one, he will light it up from there. He is snake-bit at the moment and all of his shots just miss. If he can find the back of the net, he will find it again.
Donovan dissappears for way too long. If he could consistently be part of a match, he will be a force.
Dempsey could either be the best thing to ever hit the feild, or the weakest link on the team. I am just not sure which one he is.
The man to watch for the US is Onyewu. Looks as if he is ‘Boro bound anyway. You guys might get to see a bunch of him after the cup.

Congrats to Herr Hippo. I love this site and also the fact that it avoids being blocked at work by the sports filters for some reason.

Congratulations on the award! Terrific blog too - it’s difficult to find decent writing about football anywhere on the web.
I will take the time to link you, but fking Blogger is down at the moment. Feel free to drop by (unless you’re Scottish, in which case you may wish to wait a day or two until my ill-informed rant against the Scots and their attitude towards the English has fallen into the archive).
I’ve also been posting on the Guardian blog - I’m disappointed to see that even a quality paper seems to have it’s fair share of morons posting on it.

I’ll be back on ITV in no time!!!

This is currently a moron-free zone which i agree is a bonus. Nice to have people from all around the globe participating.
I’m sure all the national coaches and players refer to WCH when they need intelligent analysis.

I’m looking forward to reading match reports on this site. They will no doubt be more interesting than those on the official pages or the national news sites!
