A message from the WCH team
by Herr EdThe World Cup starts today! It therefore seems an appropriate time for a message from Herr Hippo and his team before the action begins. We hope that World Cup 2006 is a memorable and fun competition played in the right competitive spirit, but most of all we hope that England win! Our recent poll (a massive 101 people responded) showed that 32% of the global population believe that England will make it to the final, and well over half [59%] think that they’ll get to the semi-final or beyond. However, a cynical 9% reckon that England will fail to get out of Group B! England’s chances can perhaps be viewed in golfing terms. The World Cup is a tricky par 4: the semi-final is par equivalent, a first round departure is a disastrous triple bogey, the final is a birdie – winning the trophy is an albatross!
Barring injury or mishap, England’s first XI seems beyond doubt, and should perform well as long as Gerrard and Lampard are given distinct roles in midfield. The best plan B option is 4-5-1 with Crouch as target-man, Carrick coming into midfield and Gerrard pushing up next to Lampard. If Rooney makes it back into the side that’s great, but more importantly the relentless media hullabaloo over his fitness must not be allowed to overshadow England’s campaign. We hope that you enjoy the tournament which ever team you are following, and that you return regularly to your one-stop site for the World Cup!

I hope the first couple of matches are exciting or interesting at least!
As much as it pains me to say it, I hope Germany start well so that the atmosphere around the tournament is good for the first week.

How long before we see the images of our nations ambassadors tearing up immaculate German cities fuelled by strong larger and a chip on the shoulder though eh?

If we go for 4-4-2 I would play Gerrard further forward. The grass looks awfully long where he is at the moment.

I’d stick Lennon on the right versus T&T.
